The Dutch Society for Glycobiology is a professional organization founded in 1978. The society provides a platform for Dutch scientists and their colleagues from industry that share an interest in carbohydrate structure and glycobiology in general. The members of the society form an interdisciplinary group including among others molecular and medical biologists, chemists and biochemists and biotechnologists. All share an interest in the complex structures and structure-function relationships of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates, such as glycoproteins, glycolipids and glycosaminoglycans, in biological systems. Since 2011, the Dutch Society for Glycobiology is part of the Netherlands Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
The aim of the Dutch Society for Glycobiology is to exchange knowledge and stimulate research and personal communications in Glycobiology. Together with Glycochemistry, Glycoscience covers a broad range of scientific disciplines. Since 2023, we are therefore organizing Glycoscience-NL as annual meeting to foster interactions between experts of both disciplines and showcase te diversity within the Glycoscience domain in The Netherlands.
Besides yearly national activities, the society organizes annual conferences in conjunction with partner societies from Germany (the "Studiengruppe Glykobiologie der Gesellschaft für Biochemie und Molekularbiologie"), France (the "Groupe Lillois de Glycobiologie"), and Belgium (the "Belgian Working Group for Glycosciences").
